Mummy Meagz 5 tips to kick start your plastic-free journey

Did you know that there is currently 5.35 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the world’s oceans? With a whopping 269,000 tonnes of this floating on the surface. The ocean has basically become garbage soup! It goes without saying that this amount of waste has very damaging effects on the ecosystem in the ocean. We all saw that episode of Blue Planet II, right? Well, we hear you David Attenborough, and we’ve taken note.

Which is why Mummy Meagz is proud to announce that her packaging is now 100% biodegradable and recyclable, made from E flute corrugated card! One of our core values is the welfare of all animals, as well as the protection of the environment. Our new packaging is the first step in the overall goal to phase out plastic within the company. The biodegradable materials used can easily be broken down and decompose rapidly, without releasing any toxic substances into the environment around them, unlike plastic.

If you’re interested, you can join Mummy Meagz and reduce your use of plastic. Now is the perfect time to start and the good news is there are many small ways you can have a big impact. Here are our top tips to kick start your plastic-free journey:

  1. Buy a reusable bottle – whether it’s a water bottle, coffee cup or both. Regular coffee cups tend to be unrecyclable and plastic water bottles take a minimum of 450 years to decompose!
  2. Take a bag everywhere – you can find tote bags in all styles and sizes. These are so handy to fold up into a pocket or handbag for future use, it will save you buying multiple carrier bags that end up being binned.
  3. Say no to straws – or invest in your own to carry around with you if you like to use them. Like coffee cups, straws are unrecyclable.
  4. Buy a biodegradable toothbrush – you can find some really affordable, good quality bamboo toothbrushes online. Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, so there’s no need to worry about unwanted bacteria growing on your toothbrush.
  5. Buy from companies with the same values – research companies to find out if the packaging they use is biodegradable, like Mummy Meagz.

2018 is rapidly emerging as the year when we wage a war upon plastic. We are ready. Are you?
